Loading dock

A loading dock is a purpose-built platform integrated into or attached to an industrial, warehouse, or distribution facility that allows vehicles to dock securely for fast cargo handling. It typically features a raised platform (usually 1.2–1.5 metres) aligned with standard truck bed height, sheltered loading bays, and vehicle guidance systems.

Modern installations often include hydraulic levellers that automatically adjust to different vehicle heights, ensuring smooth transfer of goods onto conveyors, forklifts, or handling equipment. Loading docks improve logistics efficiency, reduce street congestion, and enhance workplace safety by eliminating ad hoc roadside loading.
