Real Estate Tax
The real estate tax is an annual duty imposed by municipalities on owners of land and buildings throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. The amount owed is determined by multiplying the official assessed value—called the WOZ-value in the Netherlands—by the municipality's tax rate, which varies annually and by location.
For commercial properties (offices, warehouses, retail), this tax is a predictable line item in operational expenses. Property owners retain the right to challenge the assessed value, potentially reducing their annual liability. The tax applies regardless of rental income or actual use.
